The Aalborg model

When you start at Aalborg University you will learn to work with information in quite a  new way. The study method is based on problem-based project work in groups, typically with four to seven students, combined with lectures. The groups are formed each semester, and are, among other things, combined according to professional interests and personal sympathies. Each group gets a group room, where the students can work with their projects.

The advantage of the group work is, for one thing, that through co-operation and division of work it gives the students possibilities to work with larger problem complexes than would normally be possible for one person.

Experience shows that large professional benefits are gained from discussions in groups, and it has turned out that many students discuss more freely with fellow students than with their supervisors. A supervisor is attached to each group and helps the group get started, continuously responds to the group work, and helps the students if they have difficulties in continuing their work.

Concurrently with the project work in the groups, the students have lectures that support the project work and create the basis for their further studies.

The work method at Aalborg University is highly respected, and actually the latest evaluation from OECD shows that the method is almost optimal for learning.
